Retired Employees of the City of St. Louis have a retirement organization known as RECSL. RECSL was formed in 1991 so that City of St. Louis Retirees would have representation in matters concerning the City Retirement System (ERS). Our goals are to promote legislation to improve benefits for both current and future retirees and to monitor the fiscal integrity of the pension system. RECSL has been successful in sponsoring several pieces of legislation affecting the welfare to retirees. Among them:

  • Obtaining appropriate service credit for all retirees having over 35 years of service.

  • Minimum $200 pension for retirees with 12 years of service

  • After intense lobbying, legislation was passed to add retiree to the ERS Pension Board. The retiree’s themselves elect this member. The current retiree trustee presents a full report regarding the happenings of ERS at RECSL’s monthly membership meetings.

  • An alternative Health Plan was obtained for retirees. Along with the Firemen’s Retirement System, a Medicare Supplemental Health Plan with Guarantee Trust Company through Wangelin Insurance Agency was selected.

Therefore, you are encouraged to join the RECSL organization. Improvements to benefits can only be made if all retirees join together to support RECSL in a united effort.

The general membership meeting is held at 10:00am on the third Thursday of each month at the American Czech Center, 4690 Lansdowne Avenue (east Kingshighway) except January, September (Annual Picnic), and December (Christmas Party). Coffee and rolls are served and there are three attendance prizes of $25, $15, and $10. A 50/50 drawing is also held. A guest speaker is on hand with topics of interest to retirees. You are invited to attend any meeting as a guest. First year membership dues are $5.00, and thereafter $15 annually. Surviving spouses receiving a pension are also eligible for membership.

RECSL has been instrumental in securing better benefits for retirees like me.
